Agfa offers wide assortment of prepress solutions
Agfa presented what has become the most complete assortment of prepress solutions for packaging applications. New products include Digital QuickStrip, which allows on-the-fly step and repeat for label printing. Agfa placed emphasis on its new digital proofing solution for packaging printers. Integrated into the AgfaJet Sherpa series of inkjet proofers is a new version of Agfa’s color management system, ColorTune 4.0.
In addition to matching 85% of PANTONE colors, ColorTune 4.0 can match a specific logo color or any custom color. New color mapping algorithms use gamut-specific techniques to match both the size and shape of color models for different printing and input technologies. This allows the system to achieve true end-to-end color management.
QMS (Quality Matching System) another new feature of the AgfaJet Sherpa digital proofing system lets the user match the tonal response of multiple proofers and verify the calibration accuracy of each proofer, for consistent, repeatable color regardless of size or location of the proofer.
Workflow solutions
Agfa offers Apogee Series2 workflow software and partners with Artwork Systems to provide a complete integrated solution. Features such as the Open Connect option which runs on the Apogee PrintDrive allows the import of TIFF files from third-party workflows, input from non-Agfa RIPs and output to non-Agfa imagesetters and platesetters.
A plug-in to Apogee Pilot and PrintDrive workflow components, Digital QuickStrip adds the benefits of a post-RIP step-and-repeat workflow. With Digital QuickStrip, a single label can be RIPed and trapped once, and then the same raster data is stepped and repeated into user definable templates, on the fly, at output time. This insures the screening integrity and optimizes productivity by reducing Rip times. Files remain independent, making it easy to make late-stage copy and imposition changes.
Computer-to-Film
Agfa pairs its state-of-the art imagesetters-the Phoenix and Avantra with Alliance rapid-access film and Impower Plus hard-dot film. Recommended by Artwork Systems and Dupont Cyrel for high-quality flexogaphic platemaking, Impower Plus Matte film has earned a dominant market position in flexography. Agfa also offers the widest assortment of analog plates designed to match the characteristics of specific presses and imaging techniques.
Computer-to-Plate Solutions
Agfa offers a variety of offset CtP systems and configurations to match the specific needs of the user and demands of the application. Galileo Thermal offers high-quality platesetting with the Thermostar plate. Galileo VS is a violet-laser internal drum platesetter designed for maximum productivity. Lithostar Ultra high-speed plates include technological enhancements that increase image quality, consistency, press latitude and reliability. Galileo Talant, using Agfa’s unique Mistral ablative offset plate can produce high-resolution offset plates that offer long runs without the need for processing or post finishing. The Xcalibur very-large format system includes a new engine and laser system aimed at maximizing efficiency. The Xcalibur uses efficient multi-beam arrays of solid-state fiber-coupled lasers designed and tested to meet the most stringent standards in the industry. The accuracy, stability, and long life of the laser ensure exceptional imaging quality and reliability. Agfa offers four models that image plates as large as 80 x 58". All models produce plates as small as 20 x 29".
Proofing solutions
Agfa’s analog and digital proofing systems provide contract-proofing quality. The AgfaJet Sherpa family of digital proofing systems provides the maximum flexibility required for packaging applications. Sizes include 24-, 43-, 54- and 62-inch wide formats. Advanced color management, six multi-density inks and specially formulated proofing media combine to match a wider gamut of colors-especially important for matching logos and other custom colors. The Sherpa’s format and engine speed provide accurate proofs and output for multiple product samples and dummies. The system also produces fast color output for imposition proofing.
Pressmatch Dry peel-apart analog proofing system lets prepress providers and printers produce a proof on any substrate in less than 20 minutes for accurate pre-production creation of sample boxes.
