TechNova at drupa 2000
Five years ago, TechNova participated in Drupa for the first time. It was a huge success and it further strengthened our reputation as the largest and most dynamic company in the Indian imaging industry and an emerging global player.
For any exhibitor, a major international show is a major undertaking. The costs are enormous, the logistics daunting and the expectations high. And Drupa is the Mother of all Shows!
We knew we had to rise up to the challenge, participate again at Drupa and swear by the now famous Drupa slogan "I'll be there".
And TechNova was there again - at the Düsseldorf Messe, same hall, same location, from May 18-31 this year.
And we will be there yet again at the very same spot in very same hall at drupa 2004 (yes, it will now happen every four years, not five!)
drupa 2000? A success beyond imagination!
TechNova's participation at Drupa was a phenomenal success. The stand had a bold and unusual thematic backdrop : on display were some not-to-be missed inkjet reproductions, printed on TechNova media, of the colourful and striking paintings from the 'Bindu Rang Mala' series of the world famous Indian artist S.H. Raza.
TechNova exhibited exciting new products from its comprehensive range. There were the world class positive and negative offset plates manufactured in collaboration with Agfa ; there was the world's most effective clean-air, VOC free, eco-friendly pressroom chemistry range manufactured in collaboration with Hydro Dynamic Products ; and there was TechNova's own pioneering laser media and quick print products - the NovaDom Computer-to-Plate System range and the NovaSharp Computer-to-Film System which have been steadily gaining global marketshare.
Of special significance, was TechNova's new inkjet range of papers and films. Having invested heavily in R&D, TechNova was eager to see the response to the launch of our range of NovaJet PhotoGlossy Inkjet paper. By the end of the Show, discerning distributors from US & Europe had evaluated our product against other leading brands being demonstrated at Drupa, and signed up distribution agreements with us backed by volume contracts. For the Indian users, this means world-class inkjet media will be available off-the-shelf at affordable prices with zero import dependence.
Expanding the distribution network
TechNova's products received enthusiastic interest from all corners of the globe. We were able to open up distribution channels in several new countries for our latest offering : NovaJet inkjet papers; NovaDom 5000 polyester laser plate; Alympia & Taurus long-run PS plates; Hydromarc roller paste; and Nectar alcohol-substitute fount. Current distribution alliances for our PS plates and pressroom chemistry in targeted countries were consolidated with significant increases in contract volumes.
Exciting new alliances
Drupa is mainly about assessment of competing technologies and preparing technology roadmaps for one's business. Technology & marketing alliances have now become an essential component of business growth, and events like Drupa provide immense opportunities for this process. In this sense, drupa 2000 was a major milestone for TechNova.
- CtcP : basysPrint-TechNova Tie-up
The rage at Drupa was Computer-to-Conventional Plates (CtcP) : a CtP system that finally allows the printer to use presensitised plates and eliminates the high cost of silver, thermal and other exotic plates. basysPrint, the pioneer and the only company with successfully running installations worldwide, demonstrated various models of their CtP system using approved brands of negative PS plates from Agfa, Fuji, KPG, CitiPlate (USA), Mitsubishi, and TechNova's AQU (manufactured in technical collaboration with Agfa). The system is ideally suited for mid-size newspapers, commercial & packaging printers. Virtually every major printer from India visited basysPrint and expressed great interest in acquiring its CtP system. TechNova will be offering basysPrint system in the Indian sub-continent along with its own plates. This tie-up is a very satisfactory culmination of years of cooperation with basysPrint, which coincidentally started at the previous Drupa in 1995.
- Desktop CtP : HP-TechNova tie-up
After 12 months of rigorous testing, Hewlett-Packard, USA endorsed NovaDom 5000 as a top performing plate, and followed it up with exclusive demonstrations at their Drupa stand, using HP LaserJet 5000 laser printer. Thanks to its simplicity, high resolution and no-process features, the TechNova-HP Quick Print Solution, consisting of NovaDom 5000 polyester plate plus LaserJet 5000 laser printer, has now become the US & UK small offset industry's favourite. With this tie-up, TechNova has reinforced its position as the global leader in polyester laser plates.
- Thermal CtP Plates : Agfa-TechNova tie-up
TechNova's on-going technical collaboration with Agfa received a major boost with the announcement to set up a highly sophisticated plate manufacturing line in India with capability to manufacture thermal plates for high-end CtP systems, in addition to presensitised plates. The plant will be located alongside TechNova's existing plant in Bombay, and will be in production by December 2001. World-class thermal plates will be then available locally in India, manufactured exclusively by TechNova.
- Eco-friendly Pressroom Chemicals : HDP-TechNova tie-up
TechNova's recent technical collaboration with Hydro Dynamic Products, UK, was deepened. HDP will now source its industry favourite roller paste, Hydromarc, from TechNova for its global market.
- Digital Imaging Systems : Untying the knot
with DuPont, Encad, Epson, Indigo, etc.
TechNova formalised its intentions to withdraw from the sale of digital imaging systems (with the exception of CtP systems) and reallocate it resources to provide technical and consulting support to its customers. We continue to have tremendous respect for our principals and enjoy an excellent relationship with them. Until they are able to make alternative marketing arrangements, we will continue to cater to their and the user's needs.
TechNova's plans are to focus on its core business of consumables, and leverage its digital imaging knowledge and man-power resources to design, manufacture & market world-class digital print media. Parallely, we will provide free consultancy and training services to our customers in their digital path forward (Digital Yatra!).
Home away from home !
The most fulfilling activity at Drupa was to create a home-away-from-home for our Indian visitors. It was wonderful to witness the enthusiasm for new technology, and the wisdom with which the Indian printer was now able to discern what will work for him and what will not. Given our withdrawal from marketing hardware systems (as mentioned above), we were pleased that we could provide our Indian visitors with a completely objective view of the technology trends most relevant for India...over German Beer, French Wine, Japanese Nuts & Bombay Mix!
See you again at drupa 2004!
