July 16, 2004 : TechNova consolidated its position as a key player in the global imaging industry at drupa 2004, the world's largest
international trade show for print media production. Thousands of visitors soaked into the modernist atmosphere at its
aesthetically designed stall in PrintCity (Hall 06). And they were not disappointed. Team TechNova focused on the
specific business requirements of commercial and publication printers, small to medium-sized commercial printers, ondemand
digital printers, packaging and newspaper printers, as well as creative professionals and photographers.
One of the biggest thrust areas for TechNova was CtP. Visitors were agog with the launch of the thermal plate, Thermostar TN, which is manufactured based on technology developed and patented by Agfa. This CtP plate will be available exclusively for India and SAARC nations.
Almost all the CtP users in India are using the Thermostar TN plates. Some of the leading printing presses who are using
these plates are Pragati Offset, International Print-O-Pac, Vamsi Art Printers, Kalajyoti, Print House, Alpha Computer to Plate,
Superlekha, J B Khanna & Co., each one of whom have endorsed the new plate.
The Thermostar TN is sensitised to 830 nm and is based on an innovative coating technology, offering fast imaging,
convenient handling, and is ideal for stochastic or FM screening. Thermostar TN has been designed for high-end commercial printing applications and can achieve run-lengths up to 150,000 impressions (which can be extended up to one million impressions with baking); and 1% to 99% dot resolution using 250 lpi screen ruling.
Amongst the leading newspapers who have adopted Violet Silver technology from Agfa (Plates and Platesetters) are The Hindu, Malayala Manorama, Ananda Bazaar Patrika, Hindustan Times. TechNova is committed to providing complete tech support to these newspapers too.
All these customers have considered two factors as the basis of plate selection : cost-of-quality & cost-in-use. At drupa
2004, TechNova demonstrated that it has delivered on both counts by virtue of an R&D team that has set exacting standards
and stringent test procedures. This has benefited the customers as follows :
Pranav Parikh, Chairman and MD of TechNova Imaging Systems (P) Limited is buoyant about the future plans of the company, "In the beginning our forte was the manufacture of aluminium offset plates. TechNova is a market leader in India. In the past few years, we have been globally active. Besides partnerships, tie-ups, technical collaborations, we have significant market presence in most of the countries in the world. This is bound to increase, post-drupa."
- Purchase price of the plate
- Cost of chemistry
- Processing cost

- Start-up (& restart-up) time
- Roll-up paper & ink waste
- Ink consumption,
- Fount consumption
- Time wasted for press stoppages caused by plate problems
- Plate cancellations
- Plate cracking on the press
At drupa, TechNova also launched the world's first CtP Inkjet Polyester plate - PolyJet. This breakthrough technology uses an inkjet printer to image the plates, which is press ready. PolyJet is a no process Computer-to-Plateto-Press System, and is suited for two and four page format presses for two and four-colour short-run jobs of 10,000 to 20,000 impressions.
