TechNova at India International Sign Show 2005

The India International Sign Show 2005 was hosted in Mumbai from 3rd to 5th June, 2005. The three day exhibition provided an opportunity for visitors to see the latest technological developments in Signage Solutions, POP Options, Graphic Imaging and Retail Display. It was a show for manufacturers and distributors to showcase their existing range and launch new products.

The TechNova stall was abuzz with activity. TechNovaites explained the nitty gritties of the new NovaJet Large Format inkjet media range to visitors, who were enthralled by the entire spectrum of media and value added services offered by TechNova.

NovaJet Backlit Front Print PET Film 175 is a polyester film, coated with a translucent matte ink receptive layer for inkjet printing. The base of the media which is highly translucent, gives an excellent backlit effect at low light intensities, thereby saving power. This makes it easier to maintain and extremely cost-effective to operate. It is ideally suited for indoor static backlit applications at Retail outlets, Restaurants , Multiplexes etc..

NovaJet PhotoSatin PET Film 175 is a polyester film, coated with a satin-finish, ink-receptive layer for inkjet printing. It is a non-tear film for easy handling during lamination and mounting. It's stiffer base resists curling and makes it an ideal choice for indoor frontlit displays and spring banners for exhibitions and promotions. As demonstrated at the TechNova stall, it is a premium quality, satin finish, photo film; a great solution for graphic applications like POP displays.

NovaJet PhotoSatin PET Film 100 is a polyester film, coated with a satin finish, ink-receptive layer for inkjet printing. It is a non-tear film for easy handling during lamination and mounting. It is specially designed for indoor frontlit displays and spring banners for exhibitions & promotions, Geological Information System and Remote Sensing print applications.

NovaJet PhotoSatin PET Film 50 SA is a self adhesive polyester film, coated with a satin- finish, ink-receptive layer for inkjet printing. It is a non-tear film for easy handling during lamination and mounting. It is specially designed for short-term indoor frontlit posters for POP Displays, Exhibitions & Promotions, Retail outlets etc..

NovaJet Backlit Reverse Print PET Film 130 is a translucent glossy polyester film, coated with a matte finish, colour-receptive layer on the reverse side. It is suitable for indoor backlit applications like backlit boxes, rotacubes & backlit pillars and towers at showrooms, malls and airports.

Besides the new products, the NovaJet media range on display consisted of inkjet Photo Gloss Papers and Films, Matte Papers and Films, Backlit Films, Specialty Media (Cloth, Canvas and Metallised PET Films) in various sizes and thicknesses. The NovaJet media range was displayed with the help of actual display applications such as Backlit Boxes, Scrollers, Spring Banners, etc.

The TechNova stall was manned by Application Specialists who assisted visitors and users in knowing more about colour management, selection of media, and getting the best prints possible on TechNova's NovaJet range of Large Format inkjet media. There were live demos of TechNova's full range on an HP 5500 Large Format inkjet printer. As a special offering, pictorial mementoes were distributed to visitors.

Conclusion

Today, the inkjet industry is worth billions. The outdoor and indoor signage segments contribute to more than 14% of the total advertising expenditure.

While the outdoor segment has been contributing about 5-6% of advertising industry spends world over, it has been around 8.5% to 10% in India. Outdoor itself is an Rs 6-billion industry. The indoors segment, on the other hand, is not as big at present, but with retail outlets, malls and premium branding on the rise, this share is bound to increase.

As an end user said, "Everything appears picture-perfect for outdoor. But it is a fragmented medium, and many-a-time falling short of expectations what with the prices being rock-bottom."

Ad agencies and buyers feel, the industry needs to be re-organised just a bit with some more pro-active work from the vendor's side. This is something TechNova has been doing : offering premium, top grade media instead of squabbling on price.

As Anil Bhot, General Manager - Marketing points out, "We're looking at the aesthetic value to enhance the look and feel of indoor branding. There is a tremendous growth opportunity in premium printing, such as point-of-sale display, proofing, and photographic enlargement."

Yes, this was one of the messages from TechNova at the International Sign Show - Inkjet has a good future in front of it.
